Lonely Universe Re-issue

alaplage We are pleased to announce the re-issue of the pivotal recording, Lonely Universe à la plage, is available at Amazon, iTunes or by emailing us.  It was one of the first Jazz from Rant cds ever produced, from 1993.  This album features the poetry and vocals of Jeannette Lambert performing along with Michel Lambert, drums, and Michael White, trumpet (who had performed as a duo called Lonely Universe before this project), as well as Perry White saxophone, Rob Piltch and Reg Schwager guitars, Hugh Marsh violin, and Dianne Aitken bass flute.punknette

The compositions are structured and yet free, exhibiting the influence on the small orchestra of their mentors at that time, David Torn and Mick Karn for some, Cecil Taylor, Han Bennink and Misha Mengelberg for others.  With chains on aluminum snowsliders, haunting vocal overdubs of dream fragments, straight ahead jazz dudes playing wild fuzz guitar, each song takes on its own colour and intensity.  Jeannette’s poems, described by journalist Geoff Chapman as “enigmatic, street-wise statements”, are the soundtrack of her universe on many levels, with the cinematic score provided by all the talented musicians performing here.

This album  was re-issued in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Jazz from Rant label in 2015. We are now in our 30th year!
