Portrait: Nineteen

New music out now!

When adolescence and menopause meet! And with the creative goal of telling new stories, this is the portrait of the artist as a young man as perceived by myself, his mother. Because women need to sing about their lives at all stages, including moments like this one, being a parent of a young adult. Are there other songs about this life stage? I can’t think of any offhand, at least not in this genre.

This track is also a quick view into a house where free jazz and punk sensibilities collide with rap and trap, especially in our studio. With an underlying guitar track, recorded by Reg in a palace in Yogyakarta, Java near our ancestral village, morphed into an appropriately explosive and untamed midi mess. This track was composed using a formal structure of ancestral or familial astrology ie. my own set of rules that required me to compose, record and produce a track dedicated to painting a portrait of a family member on their actual birthday without exception! You should try it.

I remember what nineteen was like …
